Luis F. Sierra, Ph.D., R.Y.T. 500 is a certified Integral Yoga teacher, Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500 hours) Yoga Alliance. He has completed both the Professional Training and Teacher Development Intensive in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Stress Reduction Clinic, University of Massachusetts (1995-1997). He also completed the Integrated Study and Practice Program (ISPP) at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, Barre, MA from 2009 to 2010 with Andrew Olendzki and Gloria Taraniya Ambrosia, mentored by Christina Feldman and continues studies in this field. Luis works privately with people of all ages dealing with heart disease, cancer, dementia, addiction/recovery, anxiety and other chronic health conditions. He also adapts yoga and mindfulness based practices for businesses and organizations interested in contributing to staff well being.
Elizabeth (Libby) Yokum, L.C.S.W., R.Y.T. 200, founder of ADK Yoga, is a psychotherapist in private practice, working in the Plattsburgh area for over 35 years. She has completed the Professional Training, Internship, and Teacher Development Intensive in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the Stress Reduction Clinic, University of Massachusetts and the Professional Training with continued teacher training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy with Zindal Siegal and Ferris Urbanowski. Libby also completed the Integrated Study and Practice Program at Barre Center for Buddhist Studies with Andrew Olendzki and Taraniya Ambrosia (2010-2011). She is a certified Hatha Yoga teacher (200 hours).
Our Substitute Teachers
Britt-Marie McDowell, R.Y.T. 200 completed her Hatha yoga teacher training certification in 2001 (Yoga Institute of Houston) and certification in children’s yoga in 2006 (Radiant Child). In 2013 Britt completed certification in Trauma Sensitive Yoga (Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute). Britt has been studying and practicing yoga since 1989 and her teaching is influenced by her background in Iyengar yoga, Kripalu style yoga, yoga therapeutics and in mindfulness practices. In addition to her substitute teaching at ADK Yoga, Britt offers classes in Trauma Sensitive Yoga.
Barb Mitchell, Certified Yoga Teacher 200, began regular yoga practice in 2000. Wanting to learn more about yoga philosophy she completed a 100 hour immersion with Todd Norian and Ann Green in 2010. In 2011 she completed 200 hour teacher training at Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. Barb has also attended trainings and workshops with Deb Neubauer, Martin Kirk, Amy Weintraub, Carol Krucoff, Kimberley Carson, Ellen Saltonstall and Yin Yoga training with Josh Summers.
Sarah Henley, 200 hour KYT (pursuing 500 hour KYT) has been practicing yoga for 20+ years and her practice has helped her to be a better person off the mat. Although this can be a daily struggle, yoga inspires her to live each moment more mindfully. Sarah completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Kripalu Yoga empowers people and communities to realize their full potential through the transformative wisdom and practice of yoga. In her classes, she combines creative sequencing as well as provide the space for students to gain a better awareness of body, mind, and spirit. Her hope is that this transfers to your daily life in a positive way to deepen your practice both on and off the mat.
